The Chicago Book Expo — a free pop-up bookstore and literary extravaganza — is happening from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Columbia College at 1104 S. Wabash, Chicago. Stop by the expo’s book fair, where a dozen members of the Society of Midland Authors will be selling signed copies of their books.
The following authors are scheduled to appear at the Society’s tables:
11 a.m.-1 p.m.: James Garner, Barbara Gregorich and Stan “Tex” Banash
1-3 p.m.: Joan Kufrin, Jim Bowman, Peter Nolan and James Reiss
3-5 p.m.: June Sawyers, Gerry and Janet Souter, Judith Fraden and Libby Hellman
More than 70 Chicago presses and authors will be selling their books at the fair. The daylong expo also features talks by local authors, including some names you may recognize from previous Society of Midland Authors events: Rick Perlstein, Cristina Henriquez, Rebecca Makkai and Ian Morris. A tentative schedule is online at chicagobookexpo.org/schedule/
At 5:15 p.m., Paul Durica of the Pocket Guide to Hell — who emceed the Society’s awards banquet in May — will lead a free Chicago literary tour. See the itinerary here. The walk will end up at Roosevelt University’s Ganz Hall, 430 S. Michigan Ave., where the 2014 Chicago Literary Hall of Fame induction ceremony is taking place, with refreshments at 6 p.m. and the ceremony at 7 p.m. RSVP for that free ceremony on Eventbrite. This year’s inductees are Margaret Anderson, David Hernandez, Edgar Lee Masters, Willard Motley, Shel Silverstein and Margaret Walker.
